Desperately need an Insulin Pump!
Donation protected
Hi my name is Mikayla, when I was 10 years old I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The doctors could not understand how I developed the auto immune disease because it is genetic and no one in my family has type 1 diabetes. I also was not prepared for the suffering that would follow after being diagnosed. My mother was neglectful and did not monitor my illness and ensure I was getting or taking my medication properly. I was 10 years old trying my best to play doctor, and I failed miserably.
Because I spent so many years of my life failing at playing doctor I also spent many years being quite ill. I have been in numerous diabetic comas due to developing Ketoacidosis. I developed very painful neuropathy for a two years at one point. I also developed Grave's disease that I am now in remission for. I am doing better now, but I still need help.
Things have improved with my diabetes because I was put on the insulin pump (OmniPod). It costs me $900 and my health insurance refuses to cover the cost of it as well as the assisted devices program doesn't cover the full cost of it either. The company for OmniPod recently updated their device so now their pump can manually give you insulin by syncing with your sugar monitor. This would be life changing for me to use a pump like this. I've been working tirelessly for the last two years to improve my sugar because my kidneys are not doing so great at this time as a result of constant high blood sugars.
This new update for the insulin pump costs more money that I sadly do not have. I live paycheck to paycheck and I receive no financial support from anyone in my life. If you have it in your heart to donate it would mean the world to me. I'm out of options and I want to live a full life where I am at my healthiest. I'm hoping to raise enough money to pay for the pump for just a few months until I can start to save on my own to pay for it.
Thank-you in advance for those willing to help me change my life!
