Since his earliest days, Sebastian Purcell has embraced his world with an eager mind and an open heart. He has contemplated mysteries large and small, conducted experiments both practical and theoretical and engaged in debate over matters microdomestic and macrocosmic. Sebastian Purcell is an explorer, a researcher, a philosopher and a fourth-grader.
His nine-year-old personality sparkles with a vibrant intellect and a generous humor, which have been nurtured by Pat Purcell, his rocket-scientist father and Carolyn Felix Purcell, a mother blessed in wisdom, leadership and the arts. Sebastian is currently considering a career as a biochemist or a voice major. He is equally suited to either: last Halloween, he transformed himself into a hydrofluoric acid molecule, and he regularly dons a robe as a Chorister in the Boys & Girls Choir of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on K Street, one of the leading Anglican youth choirs in the country.
Perhaps Sebastian will invent his own vocation, combining his profound love of science, music, LEGOs, and “Calvin & Hobbes” comics, but for now he is preparing for all of life’s options at a school for students with exceptional learning abilities. It takes a special environment for gifted pupils to find the challenges and inspiration they need to exercise their talents, explore their full potential and stoke the youthful curiosity and wonder that impel the achievements of tomorrow.
As you may know, Sebastian has even more on his mind these days. He must navigate a world without his father, who died very suddenly on January 18. Family and friends grieve with him, and with his dear mother. They cannot explain a loss so great, nor hope to fill a void so deep. But they would like to honor a dream that is bright and a man who loved his son to the stars and beyond.
These friends, old and new, near and far, band together in support of Sebastian’s outstanding educational adventures. May the journey bring him joy and fulfillment, and may he always feel the love that guides his way.
