Help Nicole & Izzy get a new home

Donation protected
Meet my friend Nicole and her daughter Izzy. A single Batavia, IL mother trying to make it on her own and doing one heck of a job at it. She works hard to keep food in the fridge and a roof over their head. She spends her nights taking care of their home and her weekends are filled with Izzy and all of her girlfriends...sleepovers, trips to the zoo, to the park or for ice cream, Nicole is one mom who loves seeing Izzy and her friends smile.

I was Nicole's neighbor for over a year. Our daughters knew each other from school and when we moved in, the two girls were inseparable. Nicole and I became more than just neighbors over the year. We became friends. We would sit out at night and talk to each other about anything and everything. We supported each other and helped each other out whenever we could. Being a single mom myself, it was nice to not feel so alone all the time. She was always just a short walk though my yard to hers. I have moved since then but our friendship is forever bonded by our times together as neighbors.

Today, as I drove by her house, I was stunned by what I saw. She was outside with the police. All of her belongings piled up on the snow in the front yard. Her landlord said that she could stay in her home till the end of the month so she could find a new place to live. It turns out that her landlord had a change of heart since the last time they spoke. She stood in the snow surrounded by her life in shock. Tears ran down her face as Animal Control came and took her cat away. She looked at me and just couldn't believe that this was happening to her.

Thankfully, Nicole has not only touched my heart over the years. All of our neighbors came to help sort through her things. Offered to store her belongings. Brought her dinner as she worked through the night to make sure all of her stuff was safe. That's when you know that you have done something right in your life. When you have an army of people come out in the cold to make sure you are ok.

Unfortunately, a few items never made it out to the curb. It is too early to speculate but there are family heirlooms, jewelry, her laptop and other expensive items missing from the pile. She has notified the police but without proof that they were in her house at the time, there isn't much she can do.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people. Nicole is no exception to this. Sometimes you put your trust in the wrong people and it comes back to haunt you. Nicole did this and is now homeless. We decided to put together this campaign to help her at least get a security deposit and first month's rent as soon as possible. We want our friend and her daughter to have a place to call home. We want to help her get back on her feet. Anything you can give is more than she has now. Help us help our friend.
