In April 2024, Shannon, a 39-year-old mother of 2 at this time, was diagnosed with Stage 3 rectal cancer.

Shannon has had a long difficult journey, starting off with 30 treatments of radiation alone with being hooked up to a chemo pump 5 days a week for 4 weeks straight. Even through this Shannon continued to work. She would leave work, get radiation, and then return back to work.

When she had completed her radiation/chemotherapy treatments she then started FulFox chemotherapy for eight rounds. She still worked and took care of her family the best she could with assistance from family and friends. Treatment was working for her. At this point a child who was in need of a loving home presented. Her family had decided to add a special member to their family and then became Kinship parents not knowing what the future held.

During routine testing and scans it showed changes and something new. Shannon made the decision to have a life changing surgery on August 28,2025. She wanted to be around for her family.

Only 3 weeks out of surgery her husband became ill. He has testing going on and was laid off for medical.

Shannon had 2 more surgeries on November 20,2025 to reverse the original surgery and to take a biopsy of a spot on her liver with an ablation. Once she is healed enough she will be going through Round 2 of chemotherapy at least 6 treatments.
