Many people in Dubbo know Glyn and Jo for their warmth, generosity and genuine care for others. They are also known for always having their door open, a cuppa ready, and time for a good yarn or two.
Twenty-eight years ago, while playing football, Glyn suffered what doctors described as a life-altering spinal injury, fracturing his C5–C6 vertebrae. He was told he would never walk again. Through sheer determination, perseverance, and Jo’s unwavering belief in him, Glynn defied the odds. Not only did he learn to walk again, but he also went on to complete a commerce degree and become an accountant in Dubbo—proving that even the experts can be wrong.
Tragically, during a recent family holiday, Glyn was injured again while trying to stop a dog attacking sheep. He fell and suffered further spinal injuries, fracturing his C3–C4, T4–7, Fractured Ribs and Cricoid fracture—injuries heartbreakingly similar to those that changed his life 28 years ago. Glyn is currently in ICU at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, a long way from home, family, and the community supports he and Jo have built in Dubbo.
The reality is that Glyn’s recovery will be long and challenging, involving extensive rehabilitation, therapy, and an eventual transfer back home. Along with the physical and emotional toll of another spinal injury, Glyn and Jo are also facing significant financial strain while being so far from home, as they once again begin the difficult journey of rebuilding their lives.
If you are able to help in any way, whether by donating or sharing this page, it would mean so much to Glynn and Jo. Thank you so much for your kindness, support and generosity.
