Gloves for Beirut
Donation protected
I am a retired firefighter/EMT, having served here on Bainbridge Island as well as in Colorado. As I viewed the photos from Beirut, I was stunned to see soldiers and firefighters digging through rubble, some of the most hazardous conditions imaginable, without even gloves on their hands.
I have a friend who sells gloves and safety gear for a living, and he is helping me reach out to major manufacturers (including Majestic here in Everett) to help me buy as many pair as possible and get them on their way to the Red Cross in Beirut, or other disaster relief agencies. My goal is to raise $10,000.
My wife works in global freight and logistics (Expeditors International, also headquartered here in Seattle), and has visited her coworkers and the Beirut office several times. One of her team lost two friends in the explosion; this is a personal mission in more than one way. She will make it possible for me to get these gloves into the hands of those who need them (sorry for the pun). My target is to have them there within a week to ten days, meaning I will only fundraise for a few days to a week. I will also seek dust masks, but those are hard to find right now due to the covid situation.
Please consider a donation. Many of you don't know me, but I'm happy to provide character references on request. I have been on Bainbridge for the past 15 years. I was both a volunteer and career firefighter and my references will be individuals from the Bainbridge fire department. I have chosen the gofundme platform because it is fast, and because it protects donors from unscrupulous individuals. To request references, please contact me via the gofundme platform.
Thank you for your consideration, and for helping me care for fellow responders.
