Gloria Vasquez and Family Memorial Fund

This is my mother Gloria. My mother is the strongest, most hardworking, and persistent woman in my life. She raised myself and my four other siblings on her own, working however many jobs it took to keep a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, and food in our stomach. She’d always do the best she could to give us what we wanted even if it meant sacrificing her own wants.

My mother was diagnosed with a Stage IV brain tumor on December 24, 2021 which later spread to her spine in February 2022 and we then found out she had Stage IV Merkel cell carcinoma, an extremely rare form of skin cancer. After her most recent emergency hospital visit, her doctors found that she has leptomeningeal disease that is unfortunately too aggressive to treat with chemotherapy as the chemo itself would make my mother sicker. Her doctor’s prognosis estimate is to be days to weeks.

Our family is not financially prepared to handle the costs of funeral arrangements. If there is one thing that I have learned from my mother it’s to move through life with a strong head on my shoulders and keep faith that things will always work out in the end. As a family, we are asking our relatives, friends, and community to help us move through these very difficult times as we prepare for the loss of our dear mother. If anyone can donate any amount, we would greatly appreciate it. Funds will be used for funeral arrangements and additional living expenses that our family will face.

Esta es mi madre Gloria. Mi madre es la mujer más fuerte, trabajadora y persistente de mi vida. Ella me crió a mí y a mis otros cuatro hermanos por su cuenta, trabajando en todos los trabajos necesarios para mantener un techo sobre nuestras cabezas, ropa sobre nuestras espaldas y comida en nuestro estómago. Ella siempre hacía lo mejor que podía para darnos lo que queríamos, incluso si eso significaba sacrificar sus propios deseos.

A mi madre le diagnosticaron un tumor cerebral en etapa IV el 24 de diciembre de 2021, que luego se extendió a su columna vertebral en febrero de 2022 y luego descubrimos que tenía carcinoma de células de Merkel en etapa IV, una forma extremadamente rara de cáncer de piel. Después de su visita más reciente al hospital de emergencia, sus médicos descubrieron que tiene una enfermedad leptomeníngea que, lamentablemente, es demasiado agresiva para tratarla con quimioterapia, ya que la quimioterapia en sí misma haría que mi madre se enfermara más. La estimación del pronóstico de su médico es de días a semanas.

Nuestra familia no está financieramente preparada para manejar los costos de los arreglos funerarios. Si hay algo que he aprendido de mi madre es a caminar por la vida con una cabeza fuerte sobre mis hombros y tener fe en que las cosas siempre saldrán bien al final. Como familia, estamos pidiendo a nuestros familiares, amigos y comunidad que nos ayuden a superar estos momentos tan difíciles mientras nos preparamos para la pérdida de nuestra querida madre.
