My biggest birthday wish is to provide support to the Kenyan people, who, like others worldwide, have been hit hard by the pandemic. It is a place that has embraced me as family. For them, I am starting my first ever Go Fund Me account.
My first visit to Kenya was in 1985 and I knew I’d be back. It took more than three decades to return and now I go annually to visit the loyal family of friends I’ve developed in the archipelago of Lamu.
I have an unofficially adopted son who is a Maasai Warrior. We speak weekly and he’s named his last born after my niece who is a daughter to me. He provides any way he can for his family and village since the Safari camp he worked for was closed due to the pandemic. I have personally been sending his family financial support since the start of the pandemic to help keep them fed and their cattle alive. But the entire community is in desperate need of help. From needing clean water and medical help.
Any money raised will be divided between The Amboseli Maasai Village, the Safari Doctors of Lamu and the children’s organization Ubunifu Lamu.
These funds will help provide clean water to the Maasai who currently trek miles to carry water back to their villages; doctors who travel by boat to provide health care to people that otherwise have no access; and, the disadvantaged children of Lamu who were lost when the pandemic hit.
No donation is too small to help the people and children who tend the land and magnificent beauty that is Kenya.
