Urgent Appeal to Address Humanitarian Crisis and Human Rights Violations Against South Sudanese in Sudan
We have endeavored to make an urgent call to bring to attention to the dire humanitarian crisis and gross human rights violations faced by South Sudanese who are trapped in the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The worsening situation has left thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children, in desperate need of assistance, as they endure violence, displacement, and severe shortages of basic necessities.
As the war in Sudan rages on, South Sudanese refugees and migrants have become vulnerable targets, facing discrimination, arbitrary detention, forced recruitment by armed groups, and lack of access to humanitarian aid. Many have been left stranded, unable to return to South Sudan due to insecurity and border restrictions, while others are subjected to human trafficking and exploitation. The conditions in overcrowded camps and urban areas where they seek refuge are deteriorating rapidly, with limited food, water, healthcare, and shelter.
We urgently call upon you, and the international community to:
- Amplify Global Attention: Raise awareness about the suffering of South Sudanese in Sudan and ensure their plight is not overlooked in the broader response to the conflict.
- Ensure Protection and Safe Passage: Advocate for safe corridors and emergency evacuations for vulnerable South Sudanese civilians seeking to return home or relocate to safer areas.
- Increase Humanitarian Assistance: Mobilize resources and humanitarian aid specifically designated to assist South Sudanese communities caught in the crisis.
- End Human Rights Violations: Lobby for an end to the targeted abuses, arbitrary detentions, and forced recruitment of South Sudanese individuals by armed groups.
- Engage in Diplomatic Efforts: Encourage regional and international mediation efforts to protect refugees and ensure their rights under international law.
