Global Animal Care: Veterinary Technology Study Abroad

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Imani.

I'm a current first-year student at Colorado Mountain College's Veterinary Technology program. I work two part-time jobs to support my studies, including working as a veterinary assistant at a small animal general practice animal hospital and as an animal care attendant on the school's farm. From a young age, I knew all I wanted in life was to help animals.

Pursuing an education in veterinary technology has awarded me a wealth of knowledge on a range of species, opening my eyes to the vast world outside of cats and dogs. Wildlife and exotic animals spark my passion and curiosity like no other. It is this curiosity that led me to apply for the Loop Abroad Thailand Vet Tech study abroad program.

For 2 weeks over the summer, I can have the opportunity to volunteer at the Elephant Sanctuary in Northern Thailand, as well as working with the veterinary staff at the dog rescue clinic in Chiang Mai, receiving hands-on practice providing medical care. I am enthusiastic about traveling, learning about other cultures, studying languages, experiencing new foods, and understanding various customs. Medically speaking, I have a profound interest in conservation, rehabilitations, and rescue.

My goals through this program are to work with the elephant rescue to learn more about wildlife conservation, including the specific processes of grant writing, breeding programs, and law making. Through the local community's dog shelter, I seek to learn more about spay-neuter programs, affordable vaccine care, and the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. I believe this Loop Abroad program bridges the gap between my passion for veterinary medicine and living as a global citizen.

I intend to use savings, scholarships, and student loans to help cover the vast cost of this trip! Any donations are greatly appreciated. Donations that surpass my goal and/or needs will go towards local animal rescues in Thailand to fund medical care and research for the native animals. ❤️
