Directors Statement:

This story is a vibrant, authentic and cathartic look into the lives of young female musicians who are about to take on whole new lives and challenges. Our story is about a group of best friends with an inseparable bond. Navigating, facing and accepting the gut wrenching but inevitable reality of growing apart. We want to validate these terrifying feelings of getting older. Our aim is to challenge stereotypes of young women in rock and highlight them as creative, driven and empowered. We aim to use music to capture vulnerable emotions using a powerful visual style inspired by the 2000s rock era.

Fundraising plans

Funding for our film is very important, we will be making merchandise, do fundraising events and use crowd funders to help bring this project to life! We will be using these funds to kick off our production design and world building. We intend on making a set build of our girls performance space (a grotty family garage), transforming an old van into a tour van and much much more. We will be using these funds through to our production stage where we will be feeding and transporting crew and ensuring a creative, safe, happy and dedicated set for both public, cast and crew! In post production we will be looking at using our funds for festival submissions. We would be extremely grateful for any donation as it helps us make this exciting short film a reality!

Characters:

The characters in our story are four best friends. They are a homegrown band and regularly play small gigs to entertain their small home town. It's the summer before they are forced to spread their wings and explore other dreams and passions.

Callie

Callie is our whimsy singer of the band. She is pretty quiet and lost counting crystals in her own world however when performing or with her friends she transforms to a confident and powerful singer! Raised by her eccentric witchy mum, she wears her heart on her sleeve and embraces all things love and flowers. Although some may find her a little 'out of it' she's radiant and brings an optimistic and enthusiastic energy to the band.

Rita

Rita is the bassist. She's sarcastic to the core and awkward but in the most endearing way. She floats through life with little to no urgency, nothing fazes her. She's blunt but delightfully strange but some parts are still a mystery to her closest friends. She will randomly drop a bizarre and random story, she's lived many lives yet still remains cool and mysterious.
Gracie

Gracie is our guitarist. She's the calm in the storm, the unofficial mum of the group. She is the natural mediator of the group and doesn't hold back when one of them needs a gentle but firm reality check. She has her heart set on university determined to make a change. With younger siblings looking up to her and a mum who's always working she's used to carrying more than just her share however she does it with grac(i)e (no pun intended), strength and a heart full of purpose. She is loyal and would choose her girls over the world.

Joey

Joey is the drummer. She is energetic and chaotic with her ideas, always jumping headfirst with a spark in her eye, she's laced with impulsivity and passion. She radiates energy so loud, louder than her crash cymbal, it almost drowns out her deep fear of moving on. With a family that never felt like home, the band became her safe place. Her chosen family she would do anything for. Flirty and fearless on the outside but vulnerable and scared on the inside, she's desperate for her band to stay together. She clings onto her girls terrified of moving on.

Risks and Challenges
1. Performance and Chemistry
The story is about childhood best friends and their friendship is vital for the story. Our solution is to complete many chemistry reads and rehearsals before finalizing actors we hope to have regular rehearsals, back story exercises but also partaking in chemistry building activities to make these girls friends for life!
2. Funding the Short Film all the way to the end
We are aiming for all our kind donations to help us! starting all the way from pre production until the end to festival submissions. Our solution is to raise as much money as we can!
3. Filming in a Van
We want the band to have a 'tour van.' Acquiring a van and insuring it is a fun challenge we can't wait to explore. Our Producer has already looked into this and has already sourced a van and our DOP is looking into rigging a camera in the van however insurance and rig equipment will need to be funded through Kickstarter.
