Glioblastoma: A Fight for Life

Donation protected
We are reaching out with very heavy hearts, but a strong sense of purpose. At the end of January 2024, our Dad, Eddie McPoland was diagnosed with a stage 4 Glioblastoma and at 63 years old was given a prognosis of 18 months to live. 2 weeks after his diagnosis, he underwent his first surgery. Following this, he began his course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy with regular scans and daily visits to hospital. Our lives were turned upside down, and we all had to process that life would look very different to how we knew it. Despite his diagnosis, he took it in his stride and continued to fight head on with the love and support from his family and friends. He has recently been fighting sepsis and meningitis following his second surgery on the tumour, 9 months into his diagnosis. He is now experiencing confusion and hallucinations due to the rapid growth of the tumour, to which, surgery is no longer an option.

Throughout all this, we are cherishing every moment and making the most of the time we have left together. That’s why, as a family, we have decided to do something special; we will be partaking in multiple challenges in order to raise money for The Walton Centre Charity.

Our first challenge is a 24 hour Wild Camp: surviving with the bare minimum. We want to create lasting memories and honour our Dad’s fight. During this trip we will be vlogging our experience, and sharing the highs and lows of this journey. We want to raise money for an organisation that supports families like ours, funds critical research and works to make sure nobody faces a brain tumour diagnosis alone.

How your donation will help:
  • Supporting Research: your contributions will help fund critical research into brain tumour treatments and finding a cure.
  • Family Support - the charity provides invaluable support to families coping with a loved one’s diagnosis like mine, by offering advice, counselling, and financial assistance.
  • Awareness and Advocacy - donations will help the charity, raise awareness and push for more funding and resources for brain tumour research.

We want to say thank you for your support, whether you donate, share our page, or send words of encouragement. Every donation, big or small, will make a difference and help us push forward the important work being done by The Walton Centre Charity.

Your kindness means the world to us, and it means everything to our Dad to see so many people standing with us in this fight. Thank you for helping us honour our Dad’s legacy and raise vital funds for people like him, and everyone that comes after.

With Love and Gratitude
