On July 20th, 2017 Glen Ladwig transitioned into heaven after a long journey surviving with cancer for two and a half years. He was very strong and defied the odds living with a rare and one of the deadliest forms of form of cancer despite the statistics of a 1% chance to live for 12-18 months.

We are so grateful for the extra time he had and gave us all but we are very heartbroken that he is no longer with us on this earth. He had so much more to do here and he will be missed by many. He had the kindest soul and strongest spirit and will always be with us. Glen also donated his eyes for transplants so someone will have the gift of sight and continues to help others even after he is gone.

For those who knew Glen, he was a quiet guy and a very deep person inside. He was the type of man who always wanted to help others, even if he was the one who needed help. He was the type of guy who served for his country in the army yet never sought out or expected any benefits in return for his service. He thought there were always others who needed it more and didn't want to take away from that. He also continued to donate to charities after he lost his job due to his diagnosis because he wanted to make a difference. Glen valiantly went off his chemo treatment that doctors thought became no longer effective and took a leap of faith to participate in an early phase clinical trial that would help research a new drug targeted for his type of cancer and possibly help others in the future. He had hope for a cure someday. Doctors told him to stop his chemo to go through a wash-out period for 4 weeks so he could enroll in the study and unfortunately during that time his cancer progressed rapidly and tumors spread taking over his body and organs within a few weeks.

It all happened so fast and even with the extra time, no one is ever ready and prepared for the loss of a loved one. We are so thankful to be surrounded by friends and family at this very difficult time and continue to need all of the support we can get. Glen did not have life insurance and was denied after he was diagnosed. We have been struggling as a low-income family and need help paying for funeral costs and medical debt, especially since the Mayo Clinic and Mercy Hospital are out of network.

Donating any amount will help us immensely with the all of the bills but it is also more than that. We have always worked hard and have done everything we could to get by but as a low-income family we desperately need help to pay for the bills and help to provide peace of mind to us and Glen that everything will be taken care of. Even in his last few days with us, he asked “How are we going to pay for all this” and we assured him not to worry as we have faith there will be a way.

If you are able to donate any anything, no matter how small or pass this along to those who may be able to, it will help us with bills and to provide a funeral to celebrate and honor Glen’s life.

Our promise is to also honor Glen by donating any additional funds to his cherished charities that have supported us through his cancer journey so they can continue to help other families in need. Thank you for any help you are able to provide whether monetary or other. Thank you all also for your support and prayers.
