Hi, I'm Glen Bales, I am 73 years young. I have been wheelchair bound in a C300 Permobil motorized wheelchair since 2011. I was diagnosed with Spindle Cell Sarcoma Cancer in 2010. I went under the knife for a Hemipelvectomy which is the removal of the left half of my pelvic bone and left leg. To say this is life changing is an understatement. I was able to get a motorized wheelchair paid for by insurance. In 2018 I fell over a 20 foot embankment and had 20 fractures. Two of the fractures where in my right hip and could not be repaired worsening my dependence on my wheelchair. I am wheelchair bound 24/7, I even sleep in my chair because I cannot lie down on a bed. I am also unable to transfer out of the wheelchair without assistance. This chair raises and lowers allowing me the mobility to be behind a steering wheel and drive my car. I can raise the chair to access high cupboards on my own giving me a more independent lifestyle. This chair also reclines so I can sleep and raise my leg. Insurance purchased this chair for me back in 2011 prior to going on Medicare. Medicare has paid for maintenance on this chair and parts as needed. Unfortunately the chair is now over 10 years old it is getting extremely hard to find parts. They have stopped manufacturing parts for this chair so all repairs are done with old or used parts we can find. Medicare will not pay for a new chair that has all the things I need to live day to day. In order for Medicare to pay for this chair I need to be diagnosed with MS or a few other diseases. A new chair runs about $45,900. I know what you are thinking, how can a new chair cost more than a car? Well they do and unfortunately I do not have that kind of cash lying around. I am not used to asking for help but my family talked me into doing this "go fund me" page to raise money for a new chair. I thank you for the time you took to read my story and any donation will help me out.
