Cancer Assistance Services in Honour of Glenn Wilkinson
Hi I’m Jessie Wilkinson, and I’m raising funds for Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CASHH) in honor of my dad, who passed away on November 22nd after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. When he was diagnosed with stage 4 and given just 3 to 6 months to live, we never expected he would defy those odds and give us 19 incredible months. That was thanks to his strength, determination, and the exceptional care he received.
One of the biggest challenges during his journey was getting him to all of his appointments. Cancer treatment involves a lot—chemo, scans, follow-ups—and there were often multiple appointments a week. I was able to take him to a few, but with all of us working full-time, it just wasn’t feasible to be there for everything. My dad, as independent as he was, didn’t want to rely on us for every ride. That’s when he found CASHH, and their volunteer drivers became such an important part of his life.
CASHH’s transportation services were more than just rides—they gave my dad the ability to maintain his independence and dignity during such a difficult time. The volunteer drivers showed up every time with kindness, patience, and reliability. Knowing they were there for him gave us peace of mind and allowed us to focus on being there for the really critical moments, instead of being overwhelmed by the constant logistics of getting him to appointments.
Without CASHH, the situation would have been so much harder on our family. We would have been scrambling to coordinate schedules and missing work, all while dealing with the stress of his diagnosis. Instead, CASHH made sure my dad could access his treatments consistently and safely, and we could focus on supporting him emotionally.
This service is a lifeline for families like ours, and I can’t express how much it meant to us. That’s why I’ve set a goal of raising $5,000 for CASHH, so they can continue to provide this critical support to other families facing cancer. Every dollar goes directly to helping people in our community, ensuring they have access to transportation, emotional support, and other vital services during one of the hardest times of their lives.
Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. By contributing, you’re helping families like mine and honoring my dad’s memory by supporting a cause that gave him—and us—so much. Thank you so much for considering supporting CASHH. It means the world to me and my family.
