Help Bring Glenn Home and Support Our Family Through an Unexpected Loss
On January 19, 2026, our family experienced a heartbreaking and unexpected loss. My brother, Glenn Jacob Bitterman, passed away suddenly in a tragic 10‑metre paragliding accident while in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. Because Glenn’s passing was the result of an accident and not a natural death, the case automatically fell under the jurisdiction of the Ministerio Público, the local investigative authority.
This classification means Glenn’s death must go through formal investigative procedures. It was also determined that, due to the nature of the accident, cremation is not permitted, which adds significant additional expenses. Until the investigation is completed and the medical certificate is issued, we cannot obtain the official death certificate — a document required for repatriation, estate matters, and every legal step that follows.
We have completed an exhaustive search for any life insurance policy, and unfortunately, no coverage exists to help with these costs.
The Canadian and Mexican consulates have been assisting us, and we are now working with a funeral home that specializes in international repatriation. While we are grateful for this support, the financial burden of repatriation, preparation, and the required documentation is far beyond what our family can manage alone.
Why We’re Asking for Help
International repatriation is extremely expensive. Costs include:
- Transportation and handling of remains in Mexico
- Required permits and legal documents
- Additional procedures due to the nature of Glenn’s passing
- Coordination between Mexican authorities, the consulate, and Canadian funeral services
- Travel and administrative expenses for our family
- Future costs related to settling Glenn’s estate once documents are released
We are doing everything we can, but until the official death certificate is issued, we cannot access any of Glenn’s accounts or benefits to cover these expenses.
How Your Support Helps
Your donation will go directly toward:
- Repatriation and funeral home costs
- Required legal and administrative fees
- Travel and communication expenses
The steps needed to bring Glenn home and honour him properly
Any amount helps, and every gesture of support means more than we can express. This has been an emotionally and financially overwhelming journey, and your kindness will help us carry a burden we never expected to face.
Thank you for taking the time to read Glenn’s story and for supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time.
With gratitude,
Neil & Earlene Bitterman
