Glenarden football team seeking community help,

The Glenarden Boys and Girls Club Football Program in Prince George’s County, Maryland is seeking financial assistance in order to continue serving the Glenarden-Ardmore Community and surrounding areas in which we’ve been established for more than 50 years. In a community where so many of our youth are falling prey to the violence and other criminal activity that plague it, the Glenarden Football program provides a much needed escape, an alternative, and hope on the football field and beyond. We are more than a historic and prestigious football team. Our experienced coaches and staff members have a genuine vested interest in the safety, mentorship, education, enrichment, and ultimate success of our youth.

Our football program comprised of 5 individual teams (6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U) is dire need of equipment, uniforms, and resources to aid us on our mission to save as many of our youth as possible. Funding is needed for blocking sleds, dummy bags, and other field training equipment to improve skills and build confidence, as well as safe helmets to protect our kids from potential brain injuries. We are also in need of new and improved game pants and jerseys. Last, but certainly not least, we are in need of general funds to assist with our community outreach initiatives to include our youth mentor programs, coat and school supply drives, study halls, and film studies during which we provide hot nutritional meals twice per week for the kids in our program. The meals are given after every game and during study hall and film study.

As an association of coaches and team moms, we spend countless hours developing these young men and women not only into football players, but into leaders who learn how to fight through adversity. Many of the kids in our program come from economically disadvantaged homes and neighborhoods. This reality has been intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Often times, the resources and alternatives we provide make the difference between a child who goes astray and a child who goes on to be a productive member of society. Sometimes the hot meal we provide is the only one a child receives that day, or in a couple of days. The Glenarden Football Program is truly dedicated to supporting the youth who face economic and societal barriers. We do our best to offset costs and never turn a child away for their inability to pay.

We're asking for help from community leaders, businesses, parents, and friends, past and present, to donate toward our goal of $60,000. This fundraising campaign will help the Glenarden Boys and Girls Club Football Program keep our yearly costs low while providing our kids with new and improved equipment and uniforms as well as the resources to continue serving our community. Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be used to enrich our scholarship fund, cover registration costs for those in need, and purchase additional practice equipment to give our coaches every advantage in teaching proper and safe techniques.
