Glen Perrem was a laid back, salt of the earth type guy; an electrician by trade, and a long term volunteer at Ivory's Rock Conference Centre. I can't remember a time when Glen was not a part of event preparations there, and in fact, I just can't seem to remember even the very early days of the run down cattle farm being transformed into a very magical, park like venue without Glen, and his quiet smile, laconic humour and that special glint in his eye.
But nothing was too much for him... If you needed help with anything electrical, Glen was your man.
Sadly, he died on Saturday, within two days of being released from hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for leukaemia, amongst other illnesses.
Another volunteer's comment on hearing this sad news was: "Can't be, he was too much alive and doing so much at Ivory’s Rock, preparing for Amaroo 25. He was documenting his knowledge on how the electrical things worked out there to make it easier for the people following on." And that was truly the nature of the man.
Apparently, Glen did not leave a will, nor any readily available assets, and so his friends and aquaintances can help with the cremation and "celebration of life" costs by contributing here. We'll keep everyone updated about the scheduling of a celebration, to honour and remember a gentle and outstanding human being.
The funds raised will be used to pay for cremation services in Brisbane and associated costs; to help with the costs of the wake at Daya's function centre at Ivory's Rock (and we will let everyone know the date and time soon); to create a small memorial site (bench and plaque) at Ivorys Rock and, if we raise enough, to pay any urgent bills owed by Glen, as no other funds are currently available. Funds raised will be sent directly to Fiona Meyer, who is listed as Glen's next of kin and whose property Glen lived in, via GoFundMe's internal transfer system, and Fiona will then pay the various costs. Fiona herself is a little overwhelmed at the moment, and dealing with the many immediate challenges involved. For this reason, and as a long term friend of both Glen and Fiona, I'm assisting Fiona with this Go Fund Me initiative. Thanks again for your support.
