Emilyn, Peter and Truitt were busy young adults creating a wonderful life in the Deer Park area of St. Helena. Emilyn, having grown up in St. Helena, decided to move home from New York and purchased her first home last year in Deer Park. One of the beautiful features of the home was its location; set amongst the beautiful trees perched just above St. Helena. Her brother Truitt move in quickly thereafter as did her boyfriend Peter and Hatch, the chocolate labrador. Most weekends were spent working to transform this home into a sanctuary—working on the garden, remodeling the interior and entertaining friends and family. Truitt lived in an apartment above the garage with his three month old puppy “Cap.”
And then came the fires. Just a few weeks ago in August, they were evacuated due to the LNU fire but their home was spared and they moved back in. This Sunday morning, when the call came in at 4 am to evacuate, they acted quickly, leaving with only the clothes on their back, a handful of personal items and, of course, Hatch and Cap. The house and all of their belongings were lost to this fire.
These three people have had not just had their lives interrupted and their home destroyed but have lost almost every single possession they worked hard to collect and cultivate. Now, they are faced with the difficult task of having to put the pieces back together. So many of you have asked how you can help ease their burden, if even just a little. It’s hard to express how special Truitt, Peter and Emilyn are, but words like delightful, gracious, smart, talented and hardworking come to mind. We are thankful for everyone’s support and love for these special people.
