My name is Guor Mading Maker. I am a professional marathoner, and a 2012 Olympian. I have two dreams. One is to compete for South Sudan in the 2016 Olympics, and second is to be able to help train the next generation of South Sudanese runners.
You can help me achieve my dreams.
I would like to go to Iten, Kenya to train with other world class runners in the high altitude. In this environment I can focus on getting to be a stronger runner and try to make my country proud in the 2016 Olympics.
I have a coach there willing to help me and I have taken a risk and bought my plane ticket for early December. 2012 Olympics:
I was accepted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2012 to competed as an “independent athlete” under the great Olympic flag because South Sudan was not yet a member of the IOC, and I was not US citizen at the time. I returned from the Olympic games with great experience and determination to train hard for the World Championship in 2015 and the 2016 Olympic Games. Where the Funding Will Go:
To achieved my goals, however, I most need to follow right program, in the right environment, and above all havefinancial assistance for the next two years. With enough funding, I can go to Kenya and focus on training until the Olympic games. With more funding, I can bring along five to six South Sudanese runners to train with me. The estemination cost to train in Kenya for two years is an estimated $25,000.My Background:
I was born in South Sudan in Africa and migrated to United States in 2001. I started running in 2002 at Concord High School in Concord, NH. In 2005, I was granted an athletic scholarship to attend Iowa State University and there I became an All-American athlete. I went on to study in chemistry and graduated with B.S in Chemistry. I moved right after my graduation to Flagstaff, AZ, to train for the 2012 Olympic games.
A few days ago CNN just published a story on about my life you can read it here: http://bit.ly/CNNmylifeI am Grateful:
So my friends, I'm asking for your support and help me achieve my dream. A little donation can make big difference. I believe with your kind support, I could help bring a long lasting unity to the people of South Sudan through sport.
Thank you very much for your support.
