Hello, my name is Nicole Speece and I am truly thankful for you taking a moment to read my story. I am a proud Mother of two children and 3 beautiful grandbabies. My son Is 22 and my daughter is 16(who lives with me.) I just landed an amazing job doing what I absolutely love to do. I am a phlebotomist now for over 17 years.

I have been married to a man for five years who suffers from alcoholism. He has relapsed multiple times leaving me to pay the price. In these five years I have been mentally, financially and physically abused. When he drinks, he gets violent and I am always the target. I stayed because he is my husband and I wanted to help and support his well-being. I took an oath when I married him and I felt that was my duty as his wife. I was wrong.

My life took a very traumatic turn on June 23rd , 2023. I had come home from work and could smell the alcohol on him. I repeatedly begged him to stay away from me because he was scaring me. He started throwing things at me and destroying our home. I immediately called 911. He smacked the phone from my hand and attacked me, hitting me and yelling in my face. I was able to get him off of me but then he pulled a knife and held it to my throat. I managed to get him off of me but then he stabbed me in my left thigh. The police were able to apprehend him and I was sent to the hospital by ambulance.

I truly thought I was going to die. I am still very traumatized mentally and physically. I am unable to work due to the injury. I am unable to support my daughter with any basic needs at this point. I have hit a major financial loss. I can lose my car and even my house due to non-payments. This is the last time that man will ever hurt me. I am filing for a divorce once I am financially able. There is a PFA in place. I am asking for help. I dont know how I am going to do this. I have a long recovery ahead.
