Ok this is really tough for me to do but here goes...Hi, I'm Jo (Joy) and I'm starting this fundraiser for my daughter and I to be able to rent an apartment and no longer be homeless.

A little over two years ago my daughter, son and I made the decision to leave the 2 bedroom apartment that my daughter and I had lived in for 7 yrs and my son for 4 (they each had a room and my room was the living room after my son moved back home) because three adults in a 2 bedroom apartment is a pretty cramped living situation. Luckily, or so we thought, we found a very affordable, large enough for the 3 of us house to rent. BRILLIANT! Until we lived there for one week and all hell broke loose with problems like a flooding basement, plumbing that wasn't piped out of the house, black mold, rats in the walls, mice in the kitchen cupboards, an unsafe electrical box, no heat in the back bedroom and minimal in the bathroom and kitchen, rotting wood and mold under the kitchen sink and more...INCLUDING a landlord that ended up being a slumlord. Repeatedly we contacted him about the problems and rather than hiring someone to do it properly he'd eventually come and do the repairs himself...but wrong causing even more issues. Finally we ended up filing against him with LTB (still waiting for our court date) and he, in return, filed against us and managed to get us out on a "No Fault" eviction (N12). We couldn't find anywhere affordable in time so 5 months ago my son moved in with friends (he is good) and my daughter and I put all our belongings in storage and temporarily (until Dec) moved into friends basements. We NEED to find our own place! And SOON!

Both my daughter and I suffer from health issues/illnessess (mental and physical) which prevents her from working so she is on OW until her ODSP application goes through and prevents me from working full time. Trying to survive and save just hasnt been possible.

I'm reaching out and asking for help (something I really struggle to do) so my daughter and I can have 1st/last months rent for an apartment ($1500/mth) and moving expenses ei: moving truck, paying for gas/someone to drive (because we dont) and muscle/help, utility startups if we need to pay bills.

My family consists of myself, my son and my daughter and that's it and we've all had longtime rough go (their baby brother died when they were young, their father committed suicide a few yrs later, then their grandparents died and they've witnessed my many yrs struggle with mental illness and trying to deal with major trauma from my past) it's been one thing after another all our lives and the past 2 years was just the icing on the cake. My daughter and I are past being worn down, we feel defeated, burnt out and are scared of what will happen come December if we dont have a place of our own again. That's all we want, a home of our own so we can have our stuff back, recharge ourselves on all levels to get back to healing and be our silly selves, laughing and smiling like we used to because we're both pretty tired of stressing, panicking and crying.
