July 31, 2023, was the start of a journey that no one would ever want to embark on. Following a 3-day hospital admission due to Mastitis (inflammation/swelling in the breast), began numerous follow-up visits and biopsies that resulted in horrible news. On September 15, 2023, Tara got the call that her biopsy results showed cancer cells present in her 1 cm tumor that we like to call “Yma” (naming demonstrates authority and we intend to use all authority given to us by God concerning this mass).
She was officially diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. TNBC is an aggressive form of invasive breast cancer that can be difficult to treat and targets specific populations, such as African American women. It is considered a more aggressive type of breast cancer, mainly because there are fewer targeted medicines that treat TNBC, but Tara is remaining strong in her faith and stands on Luke 1:37, For with God nothing is impossible. Her care plan includes roughly 5 months of chemotherapy before she can even get surgery (mastectomy). She will also need to receive chemotherapy after surgery to decrease the chances of re-occurrence. As you can imagine, this is a very extensive process.
Even with great health insurance and a decent savings account, cancer treatments can quickly get expensive. Add in lost wages from being unable to work when you are sick and people with this kind of aggressive cancer can quickly find themselves in the red. Our aim is to alleviate some of the financial burdens she will face during this journey. Tara is a single mother who has worked two jobs for over 16 years to support her two loving children (ages 16 and 6) who adore her and want to see her win her fight with cancer. If you know her, you know she is filled with compassion and empathy for others. So, let’s support her and show her that we are in her corner during this battle. The funds raised through this page will go directly to Tara and will be utilized for uncovered medical expenses, childcare, transportation, day-to-day living expenses, and necessary follow-up care. This will enable Tara to concentrate on her treatment and recovery without added stress.
No amount is too small or too big. All is appreciated and our prayer is that whatever you donate returns back to you triple fold, in Jesus name.
