Nugget is a special dog that was hit by a car at just 8 months old and surrendered to the shelter by the owners. I received a call from a rescue asking if I would be able to help foster her as she would never make it in the shelter with her condition. I drove almost 2 hours and picked up her up that same day. I immediate put Nugget in PT in hopes to help her but because the shelter waited so long, the chance of her walking again was not likely. I then sent her x rays to a specialist at UC Davis but was told she is not a good candidate for the surgery. I realized Nugget was meant to be mine as she would need a lot of care but was perfect just the way she was. So, I adopted her and made sure I gave her the best life ever. Nugget loves to hike, go to the beach, run in the water along her pack, and thrived.
But last week she suddenly started to slow down, not eating, lethargic, fevers, etc. I took her to her doctor, and they treated her for a UTI. The next day, Nugget got a staph infection so back to the doctors she went. She received an antibiotic injection and back home to rest again. But still Nugget continued to slow down. I then took her to ER where they did a full blood panel and several other work to determine she has Thrombocytopenia, where her body is destroying her platelets and her white blood counts are low. A healthy dog would have 175,000-500,00, Nugget has zero. The plan is to have a specialist administer a medication called Vincristine through IV fluids and kept in the hospital to be monitored. This injection stimulates a sudden burst of platelets back into Nugget. The initial process will cost $4,500.00 but does not include overnight hospital stays, IV fluids, as well as her meds. She will also need to be monitored for 6 months via monthly blood work and routine monthly checkups to make sure the counts stay stable. She is only 5 years old and has brought so much happiness to so many. Any donation as well as sharing her Gofundme page would be sincerely and great appreciated.
