Empowering Women in Africa

Donation protected
My story:

In 2011 I traveled to Africa with the passion to help the impoverished and to empower women. I soon realized that what was needed was an infrastructure on the ground in order to make a real difference.

Four years later I came into contact with Jennifer Bentley and Jimani Collections, I was immediately drawn to what they were about. This small enterprise was brought to life by women for women, in order to create a sustainable solution to poverty by teaching, educating and training woman from the slums of Nairobi. It started with once a week classes teaching basic jewelry making and has grown into an ongoing training and design entity.

Two years ago I began to serve as a volunteer board member with Jimani Collections. With a background in design, my personal desire is to use my abilities, energy and resources to help give direction to the design aspect and to help open up the marketability to a wider audience.

I will be traveling to Kenya at the end of this month on May 25. For the two weeks I’m there my mission will be to research and seek out resources and materials for the upcoming design season and beyond. Working directly with the artisans, and having the wonderful opportunity to personally connect with the woman of Jimani brings me great joy and true purpose.

Jimani Collections aims to:

·        Provide women with vocational skills through targeted training programs, like the Entrepreneurship Program

·        Offer sustainable income and a safe place workplace for women who have neither

·        Develop a supportive and uplifting community

·        Showcase the workmanship of the ladies through unique, well-crafted products

Through innovation, education and design, Jimani Collections exists to transform and expand access to economic opportunity for artisans in under served communities worldwide.

How you can help:

Partner with me financially to help sustain the process of supporting Jimani as I  travel to Nairobi and the surrounding areas, to do the research needed and acquire the prospective material that I hope to implement in the design process. While in the United States I plan to attend various domestic trade shows in order to connect with retailers and buyers to showcase Jimani Collections and its meaningful cause.
I thank you and the women of Jimani thank you for supporting us!
