Puppy Meds - Getting Closer!
I am a dog trainer and also dog sit. A friend's daughter was having trouble at her house and moved in with him for a while. He asked if I could take care of Egypt, the daughter's dog, for a week or so until some other arrangement could be made. Of course, I agreed.
Egypt's teats were a little bit swollen and the daughter said that Egypt had recently had a litter of puppies, so I thought nothing more about it. I figured she was still recovering. I haven't seen a pregnant dog in almost 20 years, because both of my dogs are spayed and neutered and all the dogs I train and sit for are, too.
Six days later, my son called me when I was on my way home from work, and told me that Egypt was bleeding. I asked if she was wounded or if she was in heat. He told me that her back legs and tail were wet, so I figured she was in heat. I told him to put her outside until I got home.
I let my two dogs back into the house and then called for Egypt. She didn't come, so I started to worry that she might have gotten out of the yard...but no. She was laying in a big bunch of clover, having puppies! Five puppies in the litter after about six hours of labor.
Now I am taking care of Egypt and the pups until they are weaned and ready for their new homes in 8-12 weeks. I plan to familiarize them with collars and the leash, as well as basic obedience, before they leave. I also need to get them their first shots and microchips.
Because I can't do any training or sitting jobs while the puppies are here, I won't have the money needed for the shots and chips. I can handle the food, but the other expenses will come all at once in about 10 weeks.
I am only asking for enough to cover those costs and will "pay forward" to other GoFundMe campaigns when the puppies are bought by their new families (after diligent screening, of course).
I want these puppies to have the best chance possible of being "good" dogs and your help will be greatly appreciated!
