Hi there! My name is Emeli Ortiz, and I’m setting up this fundraiser for my sister, Maria Ortiz Arambula. On April 22, 2025, she was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, or breast cancer. But guess what? We caught it early, and it’s only stage 1! After a long month of appointments, she started her treatment plan on June 6, 2025. She’s had three rounds of chemotherapy, with a three-week break between each one. Thankfully, she only needed four rounds, and her last chemo session is on August 8, 2025. Her next step is surgery to remove the cancer and reconstructive surgery. While she’s recovering, they’ll check if the cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. If it has, she’ll need more chemotherapy/radiation after surgery. But if not, which I’m hoping for, she’ll have a week-long hospital stay and a six to eight-month full recovery period. Unfortunately, that means she won’t be able to work during some of the recovery time.

I’m asking for your help because the chemotherapy has left her with some ongoing side effects, making it hard for her to perform her everyday tasks at work. Due to these reasons, she has taken the tough decision to step away from work for some time. We’re praying and trusting in God that everything will be okay during her recovery.

El 22 de abril de 2025, le diagnosticaron carcinoma ductal invasivo, o cáncer de mama. ¡Pero adivinen qué? ¡Lo detectamos a tiempo y solo está en etapa 1! Después de un largo mes de citas médicas, comenzó su plan de tratamiento el 6 de junio de 2025. Ha tenido tres rondas de quimioterapia, con un descanso de tres semanas entre cada una. Afortunadamente, solo necesita cuatro rondas, y su última sesión de quimioterapia será el 8 de agosto de 2025. El siguiente paso es una cirugía para extirpar el cáncer y una cirugía reconstructiva. Mientras se recupera, verificarán si el cáncer se ha propagado a sus ganglios linfáticos. Si es así, necesitará más quimioterapia/radioterapia después de la cirugía. Pero si no, que es lo que esperamos, tendrá una estancia hospitalaria de una semana y un periodo de recuperación total de seis a ocho meses. Lamentablemente, eso significa que no podrá trabajar durante parte del tiempo de recuperación. Les pido su ayuda porque la quimioterapia le ha dejado algunos efectos secundarios persistentes, lo que le dificulta realizar sus tareas diarias en el trabajo.
