Brenda Perryman Medical and Family Fund
Brenda Perryman is a wife to one, a mother to two, a grandmother to 5 and a friend to all. She is a lifelong resident of Nashwauk, MN and has been married to her husband, Billy, for 36 years.
On the night of October23rd, Brenda had called the ambulance because she was having a difficult time breathing. After being evaluated at the ER, the tests had shown that she had suffered a heart attack and needed to have bypass surgery. The surgery was scheduled 6 days later at St. Mary’s in Duluth. While waiting for that day to arrive, Brenda had been in good spirits while surrounded by family, friends and her faithful dog Maddi, but unfortunately more bad news had arisen. After an episode of slurred speech, an MRI had shown that she also had suffered a small stroke on the right side of her brain. The surgery at this time had been postponed for more precautionary tests. Still, Brenda remained in good spirits even while having to spend her 36th wedding anniversary (Oct 31st) in a hospital. The love and uplifting words written on Facebook by all the people who care for her back home, were read to her by her sister and daughter and she was very appreciative for the out pour of prayers and kind words.
Finally, the surgery was scheduled for November 4th, and it was that day, surrounded by family, where it was clear that the real battle had only just begun. Brenda had made it out of surgery and everything sounded like it was going as planned but because of Brenda’s prior health concerns, she had to be monitored closely for the next 72 hours. Her heart was strong and responded well to the surgery, but unfortunately her kidneys did not. She began retaining fluid and was placed on a diuretic but throughout the next couple days, she had retained a total of 40 lbs. of fluids. They then sent her to the OR for a line to be placed to begin Dialysis. She currently (as of 11/14) is responding well to this and her body is releasing much of the retained fluids. Brenda remains unable to communicate verbally throughout this whole process because of her breathing tube and medication to keep her comfortable.
Brenda is continuing to fight but the battle is far from over. She remains in the hospital surrounded by her family, who have been by her side this whole journey. Her husband, Billy, who has the biggest heart imaginable and who would drop everything to help anybody in need, is retired and not working anymore after many hard years working as Brick Mason. Not only are the medical bills for Brenda quickly rising, her two children, Cole and Saffron, who both have families of their own, and both work to support their families, have been by their mom’s side since the beginning. Even though their bosses are very supportive, the many missed days of work, will make it hard to make ends meet. Brenda’s sister, Lynda, who lives in Duluth, has also opened up her home to help with meals and so family has a place to sleep at night while remaining close to Brenda.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated to help with medical bills as well as financially helping her biggest supporters and the people that mean the most to her so they can continue to be by her side.
