Gizzy is getting dizzy...HELP
Donation protected
UPDATE 02/24/17- Just got the call from the vet. Gizzy is doing well. She has completed 3 of the 4 injections. Doc said it usually takes a few days to see any marked improvement if there will be any. Continue to send those healing puppy vibes. This pup needs them!! She will be coming home tonight. We cannot wait!! Thanks so much everyone for all of your support!
Update 02/22/17- Friends, the final titers have come back clean. So, based on the lack of abnorma cell counts in her CSF fluid and the fact that none of the infectious agents came back positive, they are strongly leaning towards a brain tumor. To officially diagnose the tumor, she would need a biopsy and with the location of the lesion it has been decided to first try and treat for an autoimmune flair up (more than just steroids). We are going to start chemo injections tomorrow. She will receive 2 injections of Cytarabine tomorrow (one in the am and one in the pm) and again on Friday. If she responds well, we will continue this treatment. If she doesn't respond then all signs point to a tumor . I will keep you all updated on her progress tomorrow. Please send healing Gizzy vibes. We want to thank all of you for all that you have done during this difficult time. This go fund me account has been a life saver...LITERALLY!! After tomorrow, the funds will be extinguished. I am going to sit tight and hope that we get an official treatment plan and prognoses soon. Thank you all!
UPDATE 2/14/17: Gizzy had her CT and CSF (spinal fluid) sample drawn today. Gizzy does indeed have a spot in her brain. They are still not 100% if it is a tumor or if it is inflammation caused by a virus or bacteria. We will hopefully know more tomorrow after some of the CFS test resultes come back.
UPDATE- we have amazingly
EXCEEDED OUR GOAL!! Thank you so much to those who shared, expressed love and support and also those who donated for Gizzy's cause. I will post an update as soon as the CT is done and have a game plan! Remember all funds not used on Gizzy WILL BE DONATED to the No Boarders Bulldog Rescue.
Dear friends,
Thank you so much for reading this. Our need is urgent and time sensitive. Gizzy needs this procedure by next week based on her decline. It breaks me to even ask but we have already over extended our finances trying to treat Gizzy's immediate needs and we really don't want to leave her hanging because she is one of the family! ALL FUNDS COLLECTED THAT EXCEED OUR NEED WILL BE DONATED TO THE NO BOARDERS BULLDOG RESCUE.
For those who haven't followed her sad decline on social media, Gizzy is a one and a half year old Frenchton (French Bulldog x Boston). She has always been sassy, bossy and full of energy as most are. She loves her people especially the little ones. We began noticing something wasn't right around thanksgiving. She was acting depressed and started vomiting. We rushed her to the vet where they treated the nausea and said she probably ate something she shouldn't have and sent us on our way. Then about a week later it started back again. They switched up the tummy meds again but still chalked it up to getting into something. She seemed to get better but her "fire and sass" never fully returned. She seemed depressed. Then the beginning of January (2017) she woke up one morning and was only able to walk in right circles. Her Movements were overly animated and she seemed as though she just wasn't there. It was terrifying! We rushed her to the vet again where she spent the entire day. They did bloodwork and other assessments. Her bloodwork came back normal, her temp was normal, but Gizzy was far from normal. The vet suspected that she had something going on in her brain and referred us to a neuro-vet.
It took a little over a week to get in and Gizzy's symptoms persisted and new ones began. She cried while she ate or drank. It appeared that her left side was "dead" to touch. She couldn't see me coming if I approached her to the left. How could this be happening to a puppy??? I mean she's only a year and a half old!!!!
The neuro vet diagnosed her with enchephilitis and needed to test to see if the cause was due to an infectious agent or non-infectious agent. At this point we had already had 3 vet visits with our regular vet in less than 2 months and the speciality vet visit was so informative and gave us hope, but came with a hearty price.
Dr. Clark recommended at the initial visit to get the best picture of what was going on would be to do the infectious panel, a CT Scan, and a spinal fluid collection. After a lot of discussion my husband and I opted to do the infectious panel based on Gizzy's age and our pocket book (only a $780 visit vs $3000) in hope to narrow down the cause and provide appropriate treatment. Unfortunately the infectious panel came back negative. It appears that Gizzy's symptoms are being caused by a non-infectious reason. To properly diagnose she needs a CT scan and a spinal fluid collection. The vet is leaning towards an auto-immune disorder but there are sooooo many things that it could be .
The quote for the CT with a CF Fluid sample as $1700. There is a chance the CF fluid sample will not need to be taken but they won't know until the do the CT.
Gizzy keeps declining, she is still walking in circles and it's so sad to watch the once sassy pants frenchie stare off into space. If you could find it in your heart to spare a few dollars to help this cause our family would greatly appreciate it! Again, ANY FUNDS NOT UTILIZED WILL BE DONATED TO THE NO BOARDERS BULLDOG RESCUE.
You are welcome to contact the speciality vet to validate our need. She has been seeing Dr. Clark at Hillcrest Animal Hospital. 2900 Kavannaugh Blvd., Little Rock, AR [phone redacted]. www.hillcrestanimalhospital.org
