Help give Walter a fighting chance

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to read this page. I am organising this fundraiser on behalf of my brother & sister-in-law and their lovely wee dog Walter.

Unfortunately, their wee dog Walter at 8 years old, collapsed at home yesterday afternoon (Sunday 23rd March), and he had to be rushed to the emergency vet in Glasgow.

He was haemorrhaging badly, was losing a lot of blood, and they were told to expect the worst as at that stage he had lost two and a half pints of blood.

They had two choices, to say their goodbyes and have him put to sleep, or, give him every chance, no matter what it cost, and give the go ahead to operate.

Mr brother & sister-in-law adore both of their dogs, and couldn’t face not trying to save Walter’s life, so they gave the go ahead for surgery. After 4 hours of surgery, they were told he had cancerous growths on his liver that had ruptured, which they had to cut out.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t remove all the growths, but, he is now not in anywhere near as much pain, and, they have given him some more time on this planet to be with his family that loves him so very much.

I would like to make clear that they do have pet insurance, and have always had pet insurance, but as usual with any kind of insurance, they have managed to - legally - get away with only paying £1,800 of the bill. As it stands, the bill after Walter’s operation is approx. £9,500, with the final bill for post op care, medication and check-ups expected to hit the £11,000 mark. And, none of these costs include chemotherapy.

I understand in these times money is tight for everyone, and, my aim isn’t to get everyone but themselves to dip into their pockets – I’m just hoping to raise some money via this page on their behalf to help support them in this time of great difficulty.

At this time, Walter is still within ICU and may possibly get home on Wednesday; however, I will update this page when things become clearer.
