Giving Tuesday to Save Dogs!

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving back and we’re using it to Give Tuesdays a Chance so we can keep dogs out of shelters and get them the help they need! 

One Tail at a Time | PDX is an all-breed, no-kill dog rescue committed to lowering euthanasia rates through the rescue and adoption of dogs in need- One way we save dogs is by accepting them directly from the humans having to give them up. Doing so keeps dogs out of shelters and is often a kinder experience for the humans, too. And though the dog isn’t coming from a shelter, they often still need medical care and behavioral help nonetheless. 

Tuesday was one of those dogs. Purchased from a breeder by a family who was not able to meet her needs despite their best efforts and intentions, she spent the first part of her whole life in an x-pen, often totally alone. When the family realized her needs were beyond what their busy and complicated lives would allow, they wanted Tuesday to go to a rescue that could properly provide the training and socialization she lacked. 

At six months old Tuesday was biting and nipping people relentlessly, often escalating during attempts at redirection. She became easily overstimulated and had little bite inhibition due to the lack of socialization at critical stages in her development. This set her up to be an extremely difficult dog if she’d continued on that path, but we knew she was a future Good Dog if given the right tools.

Giving Tuesday a chance meant having the resources to get her needed vet care, a foster home equipped to address her needs, and socialization intervention with humane professionals who could also help inform us as to Tuesday’s ideal forever home. Then, we found those people — and they couldn’t love her more. (And they’re happy to report she is now a very good girl indeed).
