OUR SISTER
Hi, my name is Regina, and “Giving to Gwen” is for my baby sister. Gwen is one of the most compassionate, giving, kind hearted and God loving people anyone could ever know. If you have had the opportunity to have her in any part of your life, no matter how small, I’m sure you would feel as blessed as I do. Gwen is the amazing, single mother of 3 boys and she is the loving and gracious “GG” to 8 grandchildren and one on the way. She has been employed at Walker Chiropractic  here in Forsyth, GA  for 25 years.
OUR STORY
In late 2013 Gwen started going to the doctor with symptoms of severe fatigue, leg/joint pains, double vision, sever heart palpitations just to name a few. This went on for months and everything seemed to be getting worse and there was no clear reason. The doctors were becoming concerned with her weight loss (70 lbs. in 5 months). For a year she was tested for EVERYTHING under the sun, even CANCER and AIDS. Everything was negative! But the symptoms continued to worsen and she was still losing weight. It wasn’t until SHE asked about Lyme’s that she was actually tested. So in November of 2014 she was finally diagnosed with Chronic/Late stage Lyme disease and Rocky Mtn. Spotted fever, both from tick bites. Since she’s not sure exactly when she contracted the diseases, it is safe to say that she has had it at least 5 years at diagnoses, and probably longer. Because of the person my sister is, she continued to deal with these debilitating diseases on her own. And because of the ignorance of ME and the rest of our family about the seriousness of these diseases, we ignored the situation while my sister dealt with her own LIVING HELL alone. Her symptoms have worsened in these past two years, with intense neck and back pain, headaches, memory loss, nausea, fatigue, stiff and painful joints, the brain fog and many days she can't even get out of the bed or work.  And after long term, left untreated, both diseases start to attack the neurological system. Gwen can go in a store and forget what she went in for or where she's at or simply forget how to navigate a drive that she takes home every day. And most recently, she took my sister in law to the hospital and while checking her in, SHE COULD NOT REMEMBER HER NAME! The saddest part of this is that the doctors in our area (southern U.S, we are in Georgia) know VERY little about this disease, therefore they don’t know how to treat it. The doctors that do treat Lyme’s (and they are very hard to find), don’t accept insurance because insurance doesn’t cover Lyme or RMSF.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
I am now begging for help. My sister is the most God filled person you could ever know. I believe with all my heart that if it wasn’t for her close walk with Jesus Christ, she would not be able to get through a day.  She has basically went untreated for 2 years, after diagnosis, because of the cost and because of her unwillingness to put her burden on anyone else. Thankfully we have recently found an office within 100 miles of us that does treat Lyme and other chronic illnesses. We learned a world of information from our 1st visit, which was NOT cheap. We also learned that the first and most important thing needed is specific blood work that has to be sent to California. IGeneX has been dedicated to Lyme disease testing for 25 years, but it also isn't cheap. The lab work itself will cost $2,000.00. These test will look specifically for other co-infections that stem off of the Lyme and RMSF, especially after being left untreated. Then the specific treatments themselves will be very costly, not to mention the medication. We would greatly appreciate any support, prayers, and/or donations. And NOTHING is too small! This would help with office visits, test, medications and treatments needed. We’re told we’re looking at $20,000-$30,000.00.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and in this and ALL things, we give God the glory!

Lymes and RMSF AWARENESS
If you are unaware of what Lyme disease and RMSF can do to a person, I recommend and encourage you to read http://lymedisease.org and https://www.cdc.gov/rmsf (Rocky Mountain spotted fever) to learn more!
Also for those of you who like to watch documentaries I suggest you go to hulu and watch the film "under our skin".
