Giving to Get, sounds selfish at first glance I assume. But the reality is (for me anyway) is that GIVING does GET me something. I feel like I helped, like I focused on something other than myself, like my problems are now smaller and more manageable after seeing someone worse off. Since I was a little girl my Mum always taught me the importance of giving back to those less fortunate.
Now, we were not overly fortunate ourselves, but whatever she could give, she always did. I grew up in a nice home, with a full fridge of food, soccer cleats for every season, birthday parties and new school clothes every year. I don’t have a big story of “struggle” to share that drives me. I have just always felt in my heart, that if you think about doing good, you should BE doing good. I myself don’t have a tremendous amount to give, I have a decent job and the same bills as everyone else does. But, I try to do as much as I can within the means I have to do it. Short on both time and money as most are, that can be challenging. So, how do I take things to another level? How do I lead the charge in getting others to help give back so we can do more to help those that have less?
So GivingtoGet was born. A small mission I have to get others to GIVE and in return GET satisfaction or joy or whatever it fills you with. I would like to start GIVING in a bigger way. Pick a cause and support it fully. My intention is not to overwhelm my family and friends, with GOFUNDME requests or make anyone feel obligated. But if you have money or time, or both, I would love to have you join me in making a small dent in the world of people that need help. Without judgement, or questions, and regardless of your politics, but just to help. Help someone that needs it, no matter the reason they need it.
