Giving to Don

7 years ago, our family received the devastating news that dad had colon cancer. He began his uphill battle with chemotherapy, radiation, and eventually surgery. It seemed that the blows kept coming when we found it had invaded his bladder as well. Fortunately the surgeons were able to get it all and he was cancer free.... at least for a little while.

2 years later, the praise that prayers had been answered became more of a whisper as he was told that the cancer had returned, but this time in his liver. We all prepared for another long stretch to recovery. With another successful surgery, he was again cancer free.

Between his first diagnosis and now, he has gone through multiple abdomen surgeries, not only to remove the cancer, but also due to complications.

At the beginning of May, Dad was in for another battle due to complications from all previous surgeries. We finally got him to go to the doctor, which resulted in them admitting him for what we thought might be a week or 2.  This stretch exceeded any time frame that we could have imagined.  He remained in the hospital for almost 3 months.  He has been in ICU as well as rehab through this stint at the hospital.  We knew that he needed surgery, but due to the complication of the surgery, it needed to be done in Dallas.  This brought on even more issues with COVID-19. It seemed impossible to get him the help that he needs.

We finally got our dad home for about 3 weeks before the infections returned and he had to be readmitted. They finally accepted him in  Dallas and we anxiously waited for a bed to open. On Monday evening, our prayers were answered and Dad got airlifted to Dallas. His wife, Dian drove down the next day and is staying with him at the hospital while we await more tests and scans to determine when surgery will be and what our course of actions are.

My sister and I are asking for prayers and donations to help them with medical bills as well  as expenses while they are in Dallas. This hasn't been an easy 5 months for anyone with everything that is going on in our world, but we can't even imagine what their medical cost look like right now, and we are unsure as to how long they will have to stay in Dallas.

For those that have followed my sister and I on Facebook for the past 5 months, we appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.
