Help Me Give My Mother the Gift of Time With Her Family

I never imagined I would find myself asking strangers, friends, and family for help making a trip possible, but this is something that means so much to me that I feel it is worth asking.

I want to take my mother to England to see her family.

My mother’s mother was born in England, and much of our family history is rooted there. She still has aunts, uncles, and other close family members in England whom she loves dearly but rarely gets to see. Unfortunately, living thousands of miles apart means that we don’t get to simply visit whenever we want. Because of the cost and distance, our family has only been able to make the trip about once every 7 to 15 years.

That reality has started to weigh on me more as our family members get older.

You never really know when a visit might be the last time you get to sit across the table from someone you love. The last time you share a laugh. The last time you hug them goodbye at an airport. I don’t want my mother to look back someday and wish we had found a way to make one more trip happen.

I work as a private-school teacher in Mississippi, and I am incredibly grateful for my job and for the life I have. But the reality is that an international trip is simply far beyond what I can comfortably afford right now.

I want to give my mother the opportunity to go back to England, reconnect with her family, see the places that are part of her family’s story, sit around a table with people she hasn’t seen in years, and make memories that she can carry with her for the rest of her life.

This isn’t about a luxury vacation. It’s about family. It’s about where my mother’s family came from. It’s about making the most of the time we have with the people we love.

I know everyone has their own expenses and responsibilities, and I know there are countless worthy causes asking for help. That’s why asking for help with something personal like this isn’t easy for me. But even a small contribution would bring us one step closer to making this possible.
