Giving Life to Jessica Jones

It’s a surreal experience, sitting down to write this story for you all. But I can’t even begin to imagine how it compares to being told you have 3-6 months to live, which is exactly what Jessica Jones was advised by her doctor on December 20, 2024. Adding to the already devastating experience of hearing “you’re going to die”, Jessica had to process this news as the mother of a 10-year-old boy, 4 days before what could possibly be her last Christmas with him.
My name is Nana Karvellas, and I am posting this story on behalf of my dear friend, and an awesome human being: Jessica Jones. Jessica needs our help to access alternative cancer treatments that could save her life.
I have known Jessica for over 25 years; she is kind, joyful and the light (and life!) of the party. Her kindness knows no boundaries and has an unlimited reach. She puts others’ needs before her own, willingly and happily, as indicated by the smile on her face when she’s in service to others. Jessica's positive energy lights up a room and uplifts those around her. Her spirit is one of love, kindness and kinship towards her fellow humans. She brings people together, facilitating unforgettable experiences and moments of fellowship for all of those fortunate enough to be a part of her community. Her generosity is literally boundless. She is awesome and that will never change because she is: Jessica Jones.
Since September 2022, Jessica has been the buffalo, facing the storm head-on after being diagnosed with cancer in her right breast. She accepted all treatments offered by her doctors in Canada, including: a lumpectomy to remove the tumor (+ two lymph nodes, also cancerous); a year of chemotherapy; 21 rounds of radiation; and a hysterectomy. Despite these treatments, Jessica’s breast cancer metastasized to the brain in the form of multiple, persistent tumors. Jessica underwent an emergency craniotomy (ie. brain surgery!!) on August 9, 2024, during which they removed 1 of 5 cancerous tumors present at the time. Three weeks later she had hours of gamma knife radiation in an attempt to destroy the other 4 tumors. It was during this procedure that Jessica was advised that another tumor had grown since her brain surgery and that there was no end in sight. After suffering a debilitating seizure that landed her in the hospital, Jessica was finally told on December 20, 2024 that she only had 3-6 months to live.
Jessica’s family and friends will agree with me when I say that Jessica is full of life, and we need to help her live by raising the money she needs to pursue an alternative cancer treatment option. As of posting this story, Jessica has had two out of the ten rounds of radiation needed to extend her life up to 6 months. In order to beat those odds, we want Jessica to be cared for by the Envita Medical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. This clinic offers an integrative approach to cancer care, including advanced chemotherapy and proprietary treatment options that are not available to Jess in Canada, and could extend her life. This cancer care will cost $11,000+USD / week for 15+ weeks. As such, our goal is to raise $260,000 dollars so that Jessica can participate in this treatment protocol that could potentially extend/save her life. This amount will fund:
- 15 weeks of treatment at the base price of $11,000USD/week, and
- provide a contingency fund for an extra 2 weeks of treatment or to cover additional expenses incurred during the base 15-week treatment period.
This is where we come in my dear friends and family, old and new. Jessica needs our help to finance her cancer care and treatments at Envita – and she needs it NOW! Jessica has an appointment at the Envita facility on February 3, 2025, at which time she would immediately begin the (minimum) 15-week treatment program. She will need access to funds immediately upon that date. The funds will be used solely for the treatments and will go directly to Jessica. She will be covering all other expenses herself.
Jessica is scared – freaking out to be honest – but she remains the buffalo, facing the storm head on, determined to do whatever she can to be with her son next Christmas. In the spirit of kindness and giving that is Jessica, please help us make that Christmas miracle happen for her by donating to this fund. Thank you so much for taking the time to care.
