Giving Grandpa Grace

As many of you know my dad, Brad Talbot has battled with Parkinson’s for about 17 years. Over the last 5 years he has been burdened with dementia which has been well controlled. 

After working in this community as a police officer for 30 years, he retired and lost his wife of 33 years, and was diagnosed shorty there after. 

Our family has been rallied together to give him the best care that we could. This past year March 2020, durning COVID he was hit with a stroke. This stroke left him blind on his right side and very little clear vision on his left. It also stunted his mobility even more and brought on bouts of hallucinations and major short term memory loss. 

This past February, he took a sharp turn for the worst and we had to take him back to the hospital, not expecting it to be his last day he would ever be home. 

We have had to come to the very tough and  heartbreaking decision that he is beyond our ability and he will not be able to come home. 

Unfortunately he has become very weak,lost over 50lbs, and has an altered mental status. Insurance has denied him coverage as of Friday. He will no longer be able to stay at his current nursing facility. Fortunately there is a bed and boarding facility on our actual street. They have been booked the last six months and I got a call today that they have an opening starting this Friday.

Our hope is to have him at that facility where the grandchildren can still visit and we can hopefully make him feel as comfortable like home as possible for his last months. The cost of the facility and medical needs is above our ability and we are reaching out for support during this time. We want to give our father the grace and dignity that he deserves.
