Giving Back to Fremont’s Super Fan

Donation protected
Mike Skogerboe has been a Fremont High and Roy High School athletics fan for over 30 years. He started following the Silverwolves in 1994 when the school opened. Whether living in Salt Lake or Ogden, he travels to attend as many games as possible, including girls’ and boys’ events.

A recent injury and some life setbacks have put Mike in a position he never wanted to be in. On Tuesday, January 10, he took the bus to Layton High School to watch the FHS girls’ and boys’ basketball teams play. After the last game, he rushed out of the gym and across the soccer field in the rain to catch a bus home. He slipped on the wet grass and severely fractured his ankle. Although doctors initially told him he might need an amputation, his foot was saved with surgery. He has a long, painful recovery ahead of him.

Students and staff at FHS have come and gone over the past 29 years, but Mike’s dedication has been consistent. In 1998, he was awarded a Fremont letterman jacket by the student body officers and given the title of Fremont’s Super Fan. In 2019, he was honored by the Utah High School Athletic Association as the State 6A Super Fan for his unwavering support of high school athletics. He truly loves the Fremont athletes and community and his sacrifices have not gone unnoticed.

For many years, he took the bus or rode a bike to get to games. For a few years, he had a car, and it was not unusual to see him at games as far as Springville High School on a Friday night. He has recently been taking the bus to home and away games, often walking many miles from a bus stop to the school.

Mike’s parents have both passed away and he lives alone. His only sister lives out of state. He has always been very independent and hard-working. He worked as a food delivery driver until his car died a few years ago. He was happy to have recently been hired to work as a custodian at IRS. His medical bills and his inability to go back to work for the next several months will add even more to the heavy financial burdens that have built up over the last few years.

It’s time for us to show our Super Fan how much we care and give back for the years of devotion he has given to so many. Any donation will be received with gratitude. Our goal is to help him catch up on living expenses, help with medical bills as needed, as well as other expenses for the next few months until he can work again. It would be a bonus if we could also raise enough to help him obtain some form of personal transportation again, as walking long distances will be difficult for him.

Please consider sharing Mike’s story on your social media. The more who know, the greater chance we have of reaching our goal.

Thank you for your kindness.
