Giving back to a man who has given everything

Garrett was a Sergeant with the New York State Department of Corrections with 15 years of service to the department and not a blemish on his record. Garrett was mandated to work the midnight shift as the field supervisor the night an inmate suicide occurred. As a result of this he ended up losing his job in arbitration after being locked out without pay for a year, unable to get another job if he had any hope of returning to work for the DOC. Garrett received some funding from what is called a "rainy day fund" and CTS benefit to get by during this time, unaware that this money was taxable income. During tax time he learned otherwise and now owes $9,000 in taxes. Corrections staff are given brief training in medical and mental health care, and then left responsible for inmates with severe mental health issues. Garrett is a stand-up guy who remains well respected by his former co-workers and friends. We are asking that the community comes together to help out a friend, a co-worker, and a faithful servant to our community in his past career in law enforcement and as 1st Assistant Chief of a local fire department in this very difficult time. Every donation is greatly appreciated by Garrett himself, and his brothers and sister in blue.
