Hello, my name is Amanda and I am a cousin to Carter Drake.
If you don’t know Carter Drake personally, I’m sure you have heard his name by word of mouth, because how could you not? Carter is a friend to any and all that he meets. He is the ever positive, go getter who always finds a way to make things work in everything he does. He has touched so many people’s lives in so many ways over the years.
Carter has always been surrounded by people of all ages- from all different walks of life. In fact, he rarely has a free moment to himself because his energy is contagious and people are drawn to his charismatic personality and warm, inviting smile.
Carter would and has bent over backwards for friends, family, and even complete strangers. He always lends a hand, a listening ear, or even the shirt off his back for anyone who is in need. This time it is our turn to return the favor.
As many of you know, Carter was involved in a farming accident Late Friday (10/29/21) while working in Texas, severely injuring his left hand and wrist (his dominant hand). He is currently in the hospital in San Antonio, Texas; where he has had one surgery (Sunday 10/31/21) in which 3 fingers were amputated, and multiple pins were placed to try and fix more damage to the hand and wrist. He will go back to surgery again tomorrow (Tuesday). There is still a chance he will need a full amputation of the left hand up to the forearm. In addition to that, Carter and his wife are expecting their first child in January so Elisa is unable to travel down to be with Carter at this time. (But Mom Joy is there by his side and to keep us all updated). There are still a lot of possibilities up in the air at this time, and it is unclear how long Carter will be in the hospital, or how many surgeries he will require.
No matter what the outcome, there will be many medical expenses, travel expenses, and financial strain throughout this journey Carter is on..
A true testament to the drive and personality of Carter, is him joking with his sister the day after his accident that he’s going to join the “right handed gang” now.. if you are not in the position to contribute financially, please consider sending well wishes, words of encouragement, love, and prayers for Carter and his family as he continues to climb this new mountain in front of him.
