Hi my name is Allyson and I am Katelyn DeJean’s older sister. As many of you may already know Katelyn has been experiencing a health crisis for several weeks now with many nonspecific but disruptive symptoms such as fever, extreme lethargy, hives, headaches, weakness. This has caused her to be absent from work, in and out of doctors visits and even an ER visit for fluids. All things came to a head this past Sunday 8/13 when Katie started experiencing respiratory distress and rapidly declining. As a result, she was quickly rushed to Hartford Hospital where she has been hospitalized in the ICU ever since - it was found that she has severe pneumonia and needed to be on oxygen for several days as well as iv antibiotics with an array of testing done to try to find a root cause. Currently, doctors have no definitive answer as to why Katelyn, a young healthy individual, became so ill so quickly. While she has made great improvements with treatment the road ahead is still uncertain - she is still in hospital and unsure of when she will be coming home, we are hoping soon. She will also be out of work for at least the next few weeks as she recovers and will be needing multiple follow ups with several specialty doctors to monitor her very closely and continue to go over testing results.
Katelyn is a hard-working and selfless individual who truly is the glue to her family - her husband Jacques, 1 year old daughter Jade, and 2 pups Rocky and Luna- depend on her greatly. I know Katie would never ask for anyone’s help, however I feel compelled to share and ask for support from the many, many loved ones and friends she has touched the lives of. Some of you know Katelyn as a friend, sister, daughter, granddaughter, mother - and some of you know her as the thoughtful, empathetic, hard-working and passionate RN. Katelyn has dedicated her life to helping others and truly shines in doing so. Now, in her and her families time of need, I ask simply for your support and encouragement in whatever way you can to help lift some of the burden of mounting medical bills, missed paychecks, and the stress of still needing to pay mortgage, daycare, and other expenses.
