Our story began in the autumn of 2017, when we launched a mission to bring clean, reliable water to a community in rural Uganda, the Kyakadali Village (pronounced Chuck-a-dali).
Kyakadali has long battled harsh droughts and limited resources. In January 2018, we delivered Phase 1: a dam built by local engineers and workers, giving the village reliable access to water for the first time. This wasn’t just a construction project. It meant cleaner days, fewer illnesses, and hope for a healthier future for hundreds of families. What began as a shared project is now sustainably run by the community, with a local water committee acting as the dam’s caretakers.
During our time there, we saw that the students who attended classes were learning under makeshift sheet-metal awnings. When it rained, lessons stopped and the children ran for shelter, disrupting their education. Additionally, the lack of flooring in the huts with many children walking barefoot would make them vulnerable to jigger infestations (chigoe flea).
"We have the teachers, but we're missing classrooms"
That is why, in 2026, we are returning to Kyakadali for Phase 2, where we will check on the progress of the dam and build a dedicated learning facility for the local children.
We always hire local engineers and builders in the community to bring these projects to completion. The school will be a huge step in charting a more sustainable future for Kyakadali.
Any donation, big or small will help us create a safe, stable learning environment and supports the long-term growth of this resilient community.
