REVITALIZE The Banyon Tree Park
Donation protected
I am Jotham Hall.
I moved to Maui from Oakland with my wife and 1 year old son. We came to Maui on vacation about a year ago and realized that we wanted to better our lives here on Maui. Not getting sucked back into the trap of city living became a priority. With the help of a great local program called MEO, I graduated from their business course and started my own business.
My family realized we can build a foundation doing something morally upright, and make an honest living here on this beautiful island. I wanted to be able to work and be close to my son, so we could grow and learn together in the first few years of his life. Since I have an affinity for gardening and landscaping, I found work doing what I love here on Maui. I am very grateful for the peace and connectedness that living on Maui has provided my family.
Maui opened its' arms and opened my eyes, by providing a rare opportunity to take over the lease of an abandoned lot. I immediately saw the huge potential located under the shelter of the beautiful Banyan Tree at the corner of Market and Vineyard Street in Wailuku town.
With so much work to be done to bring the land up to a place where it could be safe, and available to all, I knew that teamwork was essential to make this dream work. At the time, it was filled with trash, garbage, displaced people, and outlined by a broken down white picket fence. It had an unsafe late night city vibe. Not a place that could nurture school kids and welcome familes.
to say the least... It was in need of major love and healing.
Feeling purposeful and passionate, the first thing I did once I took over the lease was to ask the local youth what their dreams for the land were. With the help of a collective of friends putting our passions together as one, the children's vision is slowly becoming a reality. Ever since we started 6 months ago, we have spent countless days and nights rebuilding and revitalizing the grounds, while simultaneously launching our food business, "Kokopele". All of this has been a labor of love, what a journey this has been.
We have financed over $45,000 of blood, sweat, tears and manual labor into the land. So many of my friends have come out and supported. Mahalo.
One thing I like about the little town of Wailuku is that it reminds me of Oakland. It's soulful, and in the process of a lot of development. We wanted to create a community oasis where local children and families could come play under the Banyan Tree... late night movies under the stars, music events, community garden, workshops and more. Most importantly, it has been a joy to create a safe place for the school kids who inspired me from the beginning.
I have found deep satisfaction from spending time with the youth who are stopping to work on their way home regularly. They have taught me so much and remind me where I come from. I am grateful and proud to say that since we have been here, we have liberated a small community of displaced people.
Please help me continue... by pledging a donation to this cause, and you will see how the support blossoms into youth programs, activities, community garden, and more. You will feel great about the positive long term effects this cause will bring.
I am happy to match every donation with a gift certificate of equal value for KOKOPELE cuisine.
Sincerely,
Jotham

I moved to Maui on June 10th, 2014 with my heart set on changing the world in a positive way. Positivity is the platform on which I preach my mantra upon. I believe there is always a way to manifest happiness, light and health, even during the saddest, darkest and most debilitating times.
Somewhat stuck in the western medicine world as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, many of my peers and coworkers urged me to further my education to become a Dr. of Physical Therapy. Embarking on the long path that would leave me in debt for years, to make $20 more dollars an hour didn't feel like I was following my heart. I value the connection with people. Doing more paper work and making people smile less still remains unappealing, which is ultimately why I decided to join forces with my Hanai brother Izaak Tyrrell, here on Maui.
My team at "FuzionFit Inc" has created an all emcompassing, modern form of fitness that has grown rapidly on the north shore of Maui, in Haiku. When you walk into our doors, we encourage you to have fun, because healthy habits are ever lasting when they make you happy.
Being the young, ambitious and team oriented fellow that I grew up to be. Teaming up with Jotham, his wife Kelli and company couldn't have happened in a more organic manner. All of us are all from the same area around the bay in Northern California.
While, "Squad up" has been our motto throughout the building process thus far. "Energy Baby" is what I hear being yelled at me everywhere I go here on this island, and it makes me tickle inside. It might sound silly coming off of your tongue, but it's my thing, along with hard work and authenticity. I've truly put my mind to creating this never ending block party here in Wailuku on Maui, something similar to the Post Office congregations my childhood was blessed with.
In the immediate, I have dug the holes to establish a Bulletin board, where our dreams, partnering businesses and current events can be posted with beautiful presentation and kind intention.
Creating community is something that moves me. Coming from where i'm from (Canyon, CA 94516) the community raised me to be selfless and believe in the greater good of us all before myself. Helping people in their lives is my nature. Asking for help!!! on the other hand, is something entirely new to me personally.
So please believe, I wouldn't be pouring my heart and energy into developing a place that didn't feel like home.
Maui, is the Wild Wild West. If you are working hard, it's recognized in the most beautiful way. I've had 15 8th graders helping me build a Lavish fence and Stage. The locals are simply not accustumed to seeing people work the way we do here. When my FuzionFit rally car arrives, everyone knows its time to do something progressive.
I really want to pour my extra time and Energy into this lovely project.
Bless you beyond the norm for any and all support.
Best,
EliJah
