Give Luke A Break
If you're here, you hopefully want to help my wonderful partner and carer Luke! If you don't know our story, we met in Jan 2015 and less than a year later, at age 25 he took on the role of being my sole carer. At the beginning, I had my PhD, teaching, and a life! He didn't know what was about to hit him. About 18 months later my body basically broke down and I had to quit everything and have a full time carer. Luke quit his job so that he could stay home with me. My health became too unpredictable for him to work so we both live on government pensions. Luckily Australia has pretty great social services compared to a lot of other 1st world countries, but it's still not enough to live on plus the cost of medication and all things disability related. He's been with me through every ambulance ride, night long vomiting sessions, and my worsening physical and mental health, so I want to do something amazing for him. If you've followed our story I'm sure you'll agree he deserves it! He doesn't know about this birthday plan specifically, just that I'm asking for a bit of fundraising help. So pleeeaaasse do not give it away on any of my social media sites. My plan is to organize him a 2 night weekend fancy (ish) hotel getaway with his best friend. I'll be looked after by my family so he won't have to worry about me or lift a finger. I'm finding and booking a great steakhouse and then all his other meals can be indulgent room service! He's not an adventurous guy so I know that his idea of a 'break' will be a hotel room with movies, beer, and snacks in bed. He's never had more than a 12 hour break from me and my needs, so to be left alone for 48 hours will be bliss! So you could donate $5 and you'll be buying Luke a beer. Or $20 and he can have a delicious dessert sent to his room. Or if you bought Apple shares 30 years ago, you can donate $100 and get him a lovely massage. I have saved enough to pay for this birthday gift, so regardless of how much is donated, he will be pampered. If we're lucky enough to raise more than the cost of the weekend, all the money will go towards hiring carers/help for Luke to use when he feels the need. Every cent will be Luke's. So if you've ever seen my Hollywiththemd pictures and read about this beautiful man and wanted to help, here's your chance. He deserves eternal happiness but a break will do for now. #GiveLukeABreak http://www.instagram.com/hollywiththemd
