Saint Andrew's Giving Tuesday 2022

The story of Saint Andrew's Church began in December 2019. Three families, with the blessing of our Diocesan Metropolitan, His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, began a movement in the Brooklyn/Queens/Long Island area. It was quite evident there are many of our fellow brothers and sisters who have been raised in the Orthodox Christian faith but for various reasons left the faith. From three families to fourteen families, we became a community of believers seeking to create a safe haven for people who want to reconnect to their faith and grow with fellow Orthodox Christians in the image and likeness of God.

By the Grace of God, with the prayers and support of many, our small mission continued in growth despite the obstacles created by the pandemic at our temporary church home in Port Washington, New York. Within a short period of time, we have progressed from a small mission to a congregation, and now as a parish of the Northeast American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. While in Port Washington, we were able to have worship services on Saturday evenings, Sunday mornings, and feast days, engaging catechism classes, a vibrant Sunday School ministry, and dynamic community outreach programs. In this temporary worship space, we bid farewell to one of our own, received converts and children into the Holy Orthodox Christian faith.

Unfortunately, in June 2022, due to circumstances beyond our control, our church community was forced to leave our temporary church home in Port Washington. We were devastated and heartbroken but were convicted of the truth, God has not abandoned us. Despite this difficult phase, through the prayers of Saint Andrew, more people who felt they had no spiritual home, found a home in our church community.

For the past several months, we have been going from location to location, seeking a place to worship on Sundays. In light of this struggle, for Giving Tuesday, we are asking our friends, and well-wishers to #Give2StAndrew, so we can #Build4Christ!
