WE ARE ALMOST THERE!
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We are so close to our goal and Graham and Sue would love to share their sincere gratitude with everyone who has supported them so far.
CREATING URGENT ACCESSIBILITY FOR GRAHAM
As Graham’s neighbours, we have started this page as Graham is in urgent need of renovation to his house to make it accessible for when he returns home from hospital.
Graham’s Story
Graham is a 62 year old ex serviceman who has been working as a lorry driver for the past 38 years. Graham is the type of man that can crack a joke in the darkest of times and a man who is well loved by his wife Sue, his family, neighbours and community. Graham is a ray of light to all who know him and everyone wants to do their best to support him and his wife during this very tragic time. In 2015, Graham fell ill and was subject to a critical, triple heart bypass. After this long and agonising operation, Graham developed septicaemia and almost lost his life. His recovery was agonising both physically and mentally, he could not walk or lift anything and was reliant on his wife to help him during this gruelling time. Graham and Sue suffered emotionally and financially as Graham could not return to work as a lorry driver which he dearly missed.
TRAGEDY STRIKES
Having battled through his recovery and in hope of returning to work, Graham developed ulcers on his feet and knew that he had succumbed to the distressing condition of diabetes. One ulcer turned into more and then an incredibly difficult decision to amputate his toes.
TRAGEDY STRIKES AGAIN AT CHRISTMAS
On Christmas Eve 2023, Graham was diagnosed with deadly deep vein thrombosis. This meant that there was a significant risk that the blood clots in Graham’s leg could travel upwards towards his vital organs and could have been fatal. This setback was undoubtedly heartbreaking for everyone who loves Graham and huge worry during the Christmas period. Currently, Graham is having to further his harrowing medical journey by having part of his foot amputated and it is unknown at this point if further amputation procedures will be necessary. Due to this Graham will continue his stay in hospital while greatly missed by his wife, family and neighbours who visit regularly.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Graham has been unable to work and is surviving solely on sick pay. As soon as Graham is fit to come home, he will return to cottage life in Grampound, Cornwall. With a bathroom and bedroom inaccessible upstairs and steep stairs, it is not possible for him to return home unless his home is renovated. The first job will be to put handrails into the property and outside. He has an external shed which can be taken down and a shower room can be built to replace this downstairs. The dining room window can be taken out and the entrance to the shower room can be built in replacement. Graham’s friend and neighbour who is a builder is willing to do all the renovation work and put in the time free of charge and is also hoping his local tradesman will donate their time to support him. However, we need the funds for building materials and building regulation fees.
The money will cover sanitary goods such as a toilet, tiles, hand basin, shower and wall seat, accessibility such as hand rails and paying building regulation fees. Due to Graham needing this work done urgently and going through the usual financial assistance in this situation could be arduous and help may not be given by the time Graham is fit to come home.
Therefore, we need your help to be able to start the renovations and give Graham and Sue the peace of mind that they will have an accessible home for Graham to return to.
THANK YOU
Please note: Any extra money raised will be donated to Treliske Hospital to support patients on The Wheel Coates Ward which specialises in supporting those with diabetes and amputees.
