Emergency Surgery Needed to Save Zoey’s Life”

Last Saturday night, my son found a tiny, injured kitten in a parking lot. He rushed her to the emergency vet, where we learned she was only about 5–8 weeks old. They told us she had soft tissue damage in her leg and, with strict cage rest, she might heal in a few weeks.

We brought her home, named her Zoey, and started her on formula, pain medication, and antibiotics. But soon, we noticed a terrible smell, and we feared something more was wrong. Despite gently cleaning her every day, the odor grew worse.

When we took Zoe to our regular vet, they suspected her leg might need to be amputated since she wasn’t responding to pain. But it wasn’t until I gave her a full bath that I discovered what both vets had missed — Zoe had three deep gash wounds that were the source of her infection, along with a burn on her chest.

We rushed her back to an emergency hospital, where they confirmed the wounds were putrefying and that her back leg will need to be amputated. On top of that, Zoe requires weeks of wound and burn care, with each dressing visit costing about $325. Her surgery is estimated at around $4,000.

Through all this pain, Zoe has remained the sweetest, most loving kitten — purring when held, and showing us just how much she wants to live. We want nothing more than to give her the chance to heal and grow into the happy cat she deserves to be.
