Give YOLO a Second Chance at Love and Care

Hello, everyone—

As many of you know, I’m a huge animal lover. Today started out like any ordinary day, but it quickly turned into something extraordinary during a visit with a new hospice client.

We’ll call him “Bob” to protect his privacy. Bob is in need of a lot of care, and as we were talking, I heard a faint bark and scratching at the bathroom door. When I opened it, I was met by the sweetest little dog. His condition broke my heart—he was covered in matted fur, had poop stuck to his body, bald spots, and smelled terrible due to poor dental health. But even in such rough shape, his little personality was irresistible.

After chatting with Bob, he explained that he’s been struggling to care for himself, let alone his dog. He expressed his concern for the little guy and told me I could take him home, knowing he needed someone who could give him the love and care he deserves. I called Bob’s daughter to make sure she was comfortable with this. She got emotional and shared how overwhelmed she’s been balancing her family life and helping her dad. The dog, sadly, had fallen to the bottom of the priority list.

Without hesitation, I brought him home and immediately scheduled a grooming appointment. After two baths and lots of work, it became clear he likely has mange or a parasitic issue. Thankfully, our local vet had a cancellation and got him in right away. It turns out he’ll need dental work, including some extractions, but I’m determined to give him the best care possible and make the rest of his life happy and comfortable.

Adam has been incredibly supportive and suggested we name him YOLO—it rhymes with his original name and feels fitting for his fresh start.

This little guy has already stolen my heart, and I’m so grateful to be able to help him. Here’s to giving YOLO a second chance at the love and care he deserves!
