My Uncle Vern is one of the strongest, kindest souls I have ever known. If you’ve ever met him, you know he has a heart bigger and gentler than anyone else’s—always quick to help, always ready with kindness, and always putting others before himself.
A couple of years ago, our world changed when Uncle Vern was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, a progressive and life-limiting lung disease. At the end of 2024, doctors gave him a life expectancy of just one year. It was a devastating reality to face. But Vern is a fighter, and thanks to his determination and the incredible team at the Cleveland Clinic, he is now taking the steps toward receiving a lung transplant—his best chance at a longer, healthier life.
As we enter the Christmas season—a time when most families are gathering, celebrating, and making warm holiday memories—my Uncle Vern will be heading to the Cleveland Clinic for extensive testing and evaluations. While others are preparing for festive days ahead, he is preparing for the fight of his life.
This journey comes with overwhelming financial challenges. Uncle Vern lives on a fixed income through Social Security/Disability and is a devoted single father. The costs of traveling to and from the Cleveland Clinic, hotel stays for pre- and post-transplant care, meals, and the medical expenses that aren’t covered by insurance are already piling up.
We are asking for support to help ease these burdens and allow Uncle Vern to focus fully on healing, breathing, and being here for the people who love him so deeply.
Every donation—no matter the size—makes a meaningful difference. If you’re unable to give financially, sharing his story or keeping him in your prayers is just as powerful.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping a man who has always put kindness first. This Christmas, your support could be the greatest gift of all.
