Many of you know Ladybird. She is the sweetest, fluffiest, biscuit-loving angel baby who strolled up to my patio 6 years ago. To know Lady's love is one of the best kinds of love - hence her Instagram @ ladybirdlovin .
Sweet Lady has been in perfect health for these last 6 years until suddenly, 2 weeks ago, she was unable to jump up, climb down, or walk straight. She was so disoriented and began clinging to me, knowing it was too unsafe to be exploring the backyard.
The quick onset had me extremely worried. First stop was our regular vet - bloodwork was normal. Next stop was the neurological specialist - passed the test there. Then we took the exciting car road trip to my old school, the University of Florida, to meet with their dermatology department - bingo.
Ladybird has one, possibly two, ear polyps - a little mass in her ear or nasal canal that has been slowly growing over time and finally became inflamed so much that it started impacting her vestibular system, which controls balance & coordination. Big shoutout to UF's teaching hospital. They pulled out the 3D model of the kitty cat ear and gave me the best education!
PSA to all - cats don't snore. So if you hear your cat breathing hard, it might be a polyp!
Next stop was BluePearl Hospital for our surgery consult. They will sedate her, take a CT imaging scan, extract the polyp at the root, put her in a cone for 2 weeks, and have a full recovery. If on the CT scan they see another ear polyp, she's back after those couple of weeks for surgery #2. New research has shown that surgery on both ears at the same time puts her at high life-threatening risk.
Lady got steroids to help decrease the inflammation for now, and thankfully it's reducing her symptoms. She's walking a little more easily, feeling a little safer in her body, and sleeping more soundly at night. We have many 2 and 4 am nights on the patio stargazing because she meowed so badly to go out.
Monday, Jan. 6 is the day of surgery. The all-in price for the one surgery brings us to $10k. If another one is needed, it will be another $6k more.
I'm so thankful there is an answer. It's not cancer, it's not a brain tumor, it's not neurological issues. Sweet Ladybird is young enough to recover easily and live a full life. I'm asking for holiday help to support her journey. When a lot of people give a little bit, truly a miracle happens. If you are not able to give, please share with your people. Thank you to all my friends and fur baby lovers, I know you get it <3
